Course Entry/Admission Requirements for MSc in Information Security at United States International University Africa

The applicants must be holders of the following qualifications from local or international accredited universities:

  • BSc degree in Information Systems and Technology (IST), or related field such as Computer Science/Computer Technology, Cybersecurity, Mathematics and Computer Science, Electronic Engineering , Criminology with a GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.00 or its equivalent, or
  • BSc degree in Information Systems and Technology (IST), or related field such as Computer Science/Computer Technology, Cybersecurity, Mathematics and Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Criminology With a GPA of 2.50 on a scale of 4.00 with additional relevant training, evidence of research capability either through research, paper presentations or peer reviewed publications and relevant working experience, or
  • BSc degree in Engineering, Statistics, or Physics with a GPA of 3.0, with a postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science with a credit pass.
  • Holders of other related qualifications from recognized universities, considered by the CUE as equivalent to a degree in Computer Science with a GPA of 3.0.

Graduate admission requirements vary depending on the Master’s degree sought. In addition to the degree requirements for admission, the following are University-wide graduate admission requirements:

  • Official undergraduate/bachelor’s degree certificate and transcripts of all college work undertaken (degrees and dates awarded must be posted);
  • Proof of graduation from secondary/high school or signed attestation on the USIU-Africa application form or its equivalent (including month and year);
  • Submission of a personal narrative;
  • Two letters of recommendation; and
  • Any other requirements as detailed on the application form, or as may be requested by the University.

International Applicants

International applicants are considered for admission on the same basis as local applicants and evaluated in accordance with the International Academic Credentials Handbook, but must also demonstrate English proficiency.
All students for whom English is not a first language are required to show English proficiency before beginning an academic program.
It should be noted that:

  • A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 for Paper-based, 213 for Computer-based, 90 for Internet-based Test (IBT) and above, or a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English of grade C or better is required for those applicants whose language of instruction is not English
  • Where applicable, an official translation of all academic records will be required
  • Meeting the minimum entrance requirement for any of the programs does not guarantee admissions into the University program.

    • What experiences led you to select your professional objectives.
    • What other two factors would you like to be considered in evaluating your application.
  • An updated curriculum vitae/resume.
  • Two letters of recommendation (download provided form).
  • One recent passport size photography (write your name on reverse side)
  • Copy of the National Identity Card or Birth Certificate.

Doctoral Applicants

  • Official/Original and copies of all degree certificates and accompanying transcript for both the Master’s and the Bachelor’s degrees attained from each college or professional school previously attended. (All originals, where necessary, will be returned)
  • Originals and a copy of all supportive academic documents.
  • An updated curriculum vitae/resume.
  • One recent passport size photography (write your name on reverse side).
  • Copy of the National Identity Card or Birth Certificate.
  • Three letters of recommendations from current or past supervisor, or former lecturers, peers or professional in your field. (Recommenders must have known the applicant for at least two (2) years.)
  • A one thousand (1000) words biographical letter/essay outlining your achievement, reasons for applying for the post-graduate program and your expectations of the program (DBA & Psy.D applicants only).
  • An academic writing sample in APA stylef of between 8-10 pages with references (Psy.D applicants only).
  • Submission of a mini-PhD research proposal of between 4-6 pages (PhD.IR applicants only).
  • Evidence of academic work published by the applicant (PhD.IR applicants only).
  • Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) Equation Certficate (for all Foreign Qualifications)
