Course Entry/Admission Requirements for PhD in Special Education at University of Calabar

To be qualified for admission, the prospective candidate must be a University graduate with the following minimum qualifications:

i. Admission to PhD programme in Special Education is open to all candidates who have earned M.Ed. in Special Education of the University of Calabar or other recognized Universities by the Senate of the University of Calabar with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 or 60%.

ii. M.Ed. degree in Education from the University of Calabar or other Universities recognized by the Senate of University of Calabar. Candidate should offer and pass all the core and required courses at Masters Level with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 or 60%.

iii. Holders of M.Phil degree in Psychology or Guidance and Counseling with CGPA of 4.0 on 5point scale or 60%.

iv. In all cases, candidates may be expected to undergo a selection process involving tests and/or interviews.

v. The University matriculation requirements must be satisfied.

Duration of Study

i. The full-time Ph.D programme in Special Education should run for a minimum of Six (6) semesters or a maximum of ten (10) semesters.
ii. The Part-time programme should run for a minimum of Eight (8) semesters and a maximum of Twelve (12) semesters.
iii. For extension beyond the maximum period, a special permission of the University Senate shall be required.

The following options are available:

  1. E-tranzact option:
    This option is available in all commercial banks nationwide. At the bank your are required to pay and obtain an E-transact PIN. With the PIN log into the portal http://www.myunical.edu.ng and click on the UTME Admission Screening link then follow the instructions on the portal after login.

  2. Buy Post-UTME Pin Online option:
    This option gives access to purchase Post-UTME pin from the portal. Click Buy Post-UTME Pin Online to purchase the Post-UTME pin online. Login with the TRANSACTION ID as the PIN into the portal.

  3. Scratch Card Option:
    This option is available in the following banks within Calabar Metropolis ONLY:
    a.    Unical Microfinance Bank
    b.    WEMA Bank
    c.    First city Monument Bank
    d.    Heritage Bank

On obtaining the scratch card proceed as follows:

  • LOG ON TO http://www.myunical.edu.ng and click on the UTME Admission Screening link
  • On the home page, enter your correct JAMB Registration Number in the box provided
  • Enter the scratch card pin in the box provided
  • Click on login and follow the online instructions.
  • Confirm your entries and CLICK ON SUBMIT
  • Print out the completed form.


THE FOLLOWING CHARGES SHALL APPLY:
Aptitude Test is = ₦2,000.00.

IT MUST BE FURTHER NOTED THAT:

  1. Impersonation is a serious offence and anyone caught will be handed over to the Law Enforcement Agents and may be liable to up to 5 years imprisonment
  2. Any candidate who fails to take part in the screening exercise automatically loses his or her chance of being considered for admission.
  3. Early commencement of registration is advised to avoid congestion in the dying hours.
